€10 and €5 coins from Netherlands – 75th anniversary of Market Garden

In 2019, it will be 75 years since Operation Market Garden took place, the largest airborne operation in history. The goal of the Allies was to get hold of the bridges over the Maas, Waal and Rhine and to push them through to Berlin to end World War II before Christmas of 1944.

Operation Market Garden took place in September 1944 and consisted of two parts: the airborne operation (Market) and the ground offensive from Belgium (Garden). It was a bold plan by British Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery.

The Royal Mint intend to stike “millions” of the new commemorative 50p Brexit coins ahead of the potential exit day of 31 October, as reported by Sunday Telegraph.

The UK treasury confirmed last year that it would be producing the commemorative coin as part of UK’s history.
