Eesti Pank will release the two-euro coin dedicated to the national flower, the cornflower, into circulation in 2024. The central bank has previously released two-euro coins dedicated to the national animal and the national bird in the series of national symbols.
At the proposal of the panel invited by the central bank, the Supervisory Board of Eesti Pank approved the design by Kaupo Kangro as the winner of the design competition for the two-euro coin dedicated to the national flower, the cornflower.
Second place in the competition went to a design by Andres Oreškin, and third place went to Tiit Jürna.
Eesti Pank will also issue a silver collector coin with a nominal value of 10 euros in 2024, dedicated to the Estonian athletes attending the games of the XXXIII Olympiad in Paris. Eesti Pank has a long tradition of issuing collector coins for the Olympics, going back to 1992. The central bank has previously issued 12 Olympic coins.
At the proposal of the panel invited by the central bank, the Supervisory Board of Eesti Pank approved the design by Liis Dvorjanski as the winner of the design competition for the silver collector coin dedicated to the Estonian athletes attending the games of the XXXIII Olympiad in Paris.
Liis Dvorjanski explained that the winning design shows the light still iridescent and glowing in the sky, forming the silhouette of the Eiffel Tower, with the disk of the sun at its peak. “So that our athletes may see the natural light supporting them on their path to a medal”, she said.
Second place in the competition went to a design by Villu Järmut, and third place went to Kaili-Lotta Juhkam.
The prize for the winner of each design competition is 2500 euros, with the second placed design receiving 1500 euros, and the third placed 1000.
