Notre Dame de Paris on fire!

Notre Dame de Paris on fire!

We very rarely deviate from the field of numismatics, which is our DNA, at NUMISMAG. However, there are events that cannot leave you insensitive. This is the case of the fire that occurred today at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. We are passionate about numismatics but, above all, about history and historical heritage. We can only note the partial but heavy loss of this monument, which is part of the heritage of humanity.

Tonight, sadness is great all over the world….

Her reign was so long in fact, that it was only surpassed by her great-great-granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth II, in 2015. Due to the length of time she spent on the throne, the coinage issued in Queen Victoria’s name was one of...

1861 Withdraw of WINSCONSIN dollars: riots for banknotes

Nowadays, banknotes in the United States are issued by the government. However, this has not always been the case. Before the American Civil War, there were hundreds of banks in the United States that issued banknotes. These were not U.S. government trust securities, but private trust securities issued by these banks and backed by their own funds.

Discovered in 1634 by Jean NICOLET and became a member state of the United States in 1848 (the 30th state of the United States), WISCONSIN was in significant private currency circulation, despite the absence...
