2022 €3 coin dedicated to the ELEPHANT from Austrian Mint

Man has always admired the measured demeanor and calming serenity of the elephant. These qualities are highlighted on The Serenity of the Elephant, the fourth piece in the five-piece Eyes of the World series, in the form of an elephant’s sapphire blue eyes made of sparkling Swarovski® crystals.
The people of Africa have revered elephants since ancient times. In Cameroon revered kings are likened to elephants; among the Ashanti of Ghana good governance is firmly associated with the idea of a strong male elephant and the poise of a matriarch. Many of the religious and political rituals and traditions that derive from the human image of the elephant date from a time when the rights of the pachyderm had not yet been limited by humans. In order to ensure that the natural habitat of elephants does not disappear any further than it already has, a new and consistent approach to environmental protection is essential. This requires patience and perseverance – qualities that make the elephant such a revered animal.
The obverse of the coin is dominated by a powerful African male elephant in its natural habitat, an image surrounded by a decorative pattern reminiscent of African fabrics.
The reverse of the coin features a close-up of an elephant’s head, highlighting its sparkling sapphire blue eyes.
The coin will be minted up to 30,000 pieces, in BE (Proof) quality only. These coins are made of silver (925/1000 – 2/3 ounce) and are presented in a case with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
