
Royal Mint unveiled 2022 €2 commemorative coins – Spain

Last update, 04/08/2022 – According ECB regulation, euro countries may each issue only two €2 commemorative coins per year. Exceptionally, they are allowed to issue a third one, provided that it is one issued jointly and that it commemorates events of Europewide importance. For 2022, The Royal Mint of Spain will issue three €2 commemorative coins.
Juan Sebastián de Elcano €2 coin
Royal Mint of Spain commemorates the 5th centenary of the arrival of the Nao Victoria in Spain in September 1522 leaded by the navigator Juan Sebastián de Elcano, with only 18 crew members, after completing the first circumnavigation of the world. Their arrival marked the end of the expedition that, promoted by the Castilian crown, set off in September 1519 in search of the Spice Islands in the confines of the demarcation of the Treaty of Tordesillas, under the command of Ferdinand Magellan, with 5 ships
and some 250 crew members.
The coin is included in BU quality in the 2022 Euro Circulation Coin Sets and in proof quality in both the 2022 Proof Set and the special blister pack that is limited to 5 000 coins (BU quality).
FNMT will issue 1 000 000 coins for circulation.
Garajonay National Park €2 coin
The 2022 issue of UNESCO €2 coins series is dedicated to the Garajonay National Park in the island of La Gomera, one of the Canary Island. It was declared World Heritage Site in 1986. It occupies 40 Km2.
The national park includes the massive rocks that are found along the island. These are former volcanoes whose shapes have been carved by erosion. Many of the species of flora and fauna are endemic. The park has been recognised as an Important Bird Area (IBA).
The coin is included in BU quality in the 2022 Euro Circulation Coin Sets and in proof quality in both the 2022 Proof Set and the special blister pack that is limited to 5 000 coins (BU quality).
FNMT will issue 1 000 000 coins for circulation.
Erasmus Programme €2 coin
2022 marks the 35th anniversary of the Erasmus Programme. Some European countries, Spain among them, will issue a 2-euro coin as a way of recognising one of the great and undisputed achievements of the European Union, the Erasmus Programme. This coin will be released on 1 st July. Both coin are included in BU quality in the 2022 Euro Circulation Coin Sets and in proof quality in both the 2022 Proof Set and the special blister pack that is limited to 5 000 coins.
