Design of the Schokland 5 Euro Coin
The portrait of King Willem-Alexander is depicted on coin’s obverse. The portrait is a “free line drawing”, in the style of the landscape. On the coin’s reverse of €5 Schokland, you’ll find a grid with the typical Dutch polder landscape, framing Schokland. There are 4 different icons incorporated, refering to the following cultural values and history:
Fish: fishing, sea, fish auction, Zuiderzee
Footprint: archaeological value, masterpiece in the museum, 4,000 years old footprint
Fishing boat: “Schokker” (resident of Schokland), fishermen, economy of Schokland
Mammoth: ice age, former resident area, prehistory, archeology
The Dutch Mint stated in its newsletter of 09/21/2018 that the inaugural strike of this coin was 3,612 coins.
As of 21/09/2018, the Proof and BU versions of the coincard are sold out at the Netherlands Mint (RMN).
