The Central Bank of Barbados has unveiled a new line of more attractive and durable banknotes with enhanced security features that make them more difficult to counterfeit. The new polymer bills, which will be officially released in December, are expected to last about two and a half times longer than current paper bills.
Highlighting some of the benefits of the new series of bills, Gareth Evans, national director at De La Rue, the England-based company responsible for producing the bills, said that in addition to lasting longer, they have new features that make them more accessible to members of the visually impaired community. “The polymer allows for the inclusion of important, bold and innovative security features that make the bills very difficult to reproduce but easy for the public to authenticate,” he added.
The island of Barbados is an independent state in the British Commonwealth, located in the eastern Caribbean Sea. Bridgetown, the capital, is a cruise port known for its colonial era buildings.
