2022 €20 proof silver Coin “150 Years of Red Star Line” from belgian Mint

For once a ship instead of a train! This year marks the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Belgian shipping company Red Star Line. Very significant for Belgium, which is why King Philippe also adorns this exclusive silver 20-euro coin issued by the Royal Belgian Mint. Red Star Line was established in 1872 and offered as of 1873 weekly crossings from Antwerp to New York. Later also from Antwerp to Philadelphia and vice versa, sometimes with a stopover in Liverpool or Southampton in the United Kingdom. Between 1873 and 1934 a total of some two million emigrants made the crossing with Red Star Line. The Silver Proof coin shows a representation of the SS Belgenland. This luxury cruise ship sailed for Red Star Line from 1923 to 1934. On the coin, the ship is sailing with the logo of the Belgian shipping company. The star is flanked on the left by the Antwerp skyline and on the right by that of New York. Mintage is strictly limited to 2,500 coins.
