2021 numismatic program of Luxemburg

Here are some coins issues that have been officialy unveiled by the CBL (Central Bank of Luxemburg) for 2021.

Exclusively, the CBL communicated to NUMISMAG two visuals of 2021 coins. We thank the persons in charge of the BCL.

The series concerning the castles of Luxembourg stopped with the 2019  issue.

The coin dedicated to the 2021 exhibition of DUBAI was struck with 2020 yearmark but will not be released until 2021. However, collectors who request it will be able to receive it in 2020.

The CBL informed us that the creation of two different varieties of 2€ (in relief and 2D photo like) has contributed to significantly increase the demand of collectors.

As a result, many collectors are already sold out and will not be sold at the CBL counter. The number of BCL numismatic subscribers has increased considerably. In this respect, the CBL is closer to the way the Vatican or San Marino operates.

50,000 annual series of 8 coins with 2021 yearmark (1 cent to 2€) will be sold in bags to satisfy the demand of collectors from all over the world.

January 2021: €2 – 100th anniversary of Grand Duke Jean birth

€2 Grand Duke John – high relief strike

€2 Grand Duke John “photo-like” strike

Mintage: 320 000 UNC coins in two versions of 160 000 coins each

( 2D photo and high relief 3D) + 7,500 BU coincards

with 6*2€ commemorative coins

Mintage: 2 500 sets

These proof sets are beginning to be sought after by collectors, especially the first two boxes issued in 2008 and 2012. Indeed, they seem to be more and more difficult to get hold of and prices on the second market are soaring when these boxes are offered for sale.

April 2021: Melusine dedicated coin

October 2021:  €2.5 coin dedicated to the casemates of Luxembourg.

The call for tenders is underway with various European currencies for the minting of this currency.
