In 2022, Collectors and commemorative euro coins will be issued in 8 different themes by Lithuania’s central bank. At this point, Lithuania will issue three 2 euro commemorative coins.
A €2 commemorative coin will be dedicated to celebrating 100 years of basketball in Lithuania. The national side is designed by artist Egidijus Rapolis.
On the national side of the coin, in the central part, the outline of the map of Lithuania is represented as a basketball court, marking that basketball has been played in Lithuania for 100 years. The inscriptions “Lithuania”, “1922-2022” are gathered in a semicircle around the map of the coin. Also on the obverse is the logo of the manufacturer, UAB Lithuanian Mint.
Mintages:
UNC coins (circulation): 742 500 coins
BU coins (collectors market): 7 500 coins
Another €2 commemorative coin will mark the 35th anniversary of the Erasmus Programme (the coin will also be issued by other euro area member states).
First version of 2022 €2 ERASMUS PROGRAM coin
Second version and final one
The main difference between the two versions is the place of lithuanian mint mintmark and of the issuing country, Lithuania. You, may also notice that in contradiction of many other countries projects, JOAQUIN JIMENEZ (designer of the joint issue coin) initials are not engraved under ERASMUS pencil.
Mintage: 300 000 coins in UNC condition
Bank of Lithuania did confirm the project of the third 2022 €2 commemorative coin designed by artist Rolandas RIMKUNAS, dedicated to SULVAKIJA region, in continuation of the series “Lithuanian Ethnographic Regions”.
On the national side of the coin is a bowl in the coat of arms, the shield is decorated on both sides with silver oak twigs with acorns, at the bottom connected by a silver ribbon with the inscription “Unity does not bloom. The oak branches symbolize the deep history of the region, which dates back to the pagan times of the state of Lithuania. The Bull was once the most common animal in the region. At the top of the composition is the inscription “Lithuania”, the year of issue of the coin 2022, at the bottom – “Suvalkija” and the logo of the coin manufacturer UAB “Lietuvos mint”.
