Commemorative coins – 65th Anniversary of the Coronation of Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II

The Royal Mint has revealed two new commemorative coin designs that will celebrate the 65th anniversary of the coronation of Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II, marking the year that The Queen was crowned.

Since 1953, The Queen’s reign has been part of one of the most rapidly changing periods in Britain’s history. With Her Majesty seeing a significant number of milestones throughout her reign, such as becoming the world’s longest reigning living monarch, The Queen remains a much-loved symbol of stability within the nation.

Anne Jessopp, CEO at The Royal Mint commented: “Throughout her reign, The Queen has given the nation so many special moments and milestones to celebrate. The Royal Mint is proud to have been there for every anniversary and occasion for the Royal Family. “This is just another example of how The Royal Mint has commemorated these key events for the Royal Family and therefore, for the nation. I have been CEO of The Royal Mint for just a couple of months, and already have seen a number of royal moments celebrated, it’s going to be a very exciting year.”

The coins will be available in Brilliant Uncirculated or Silver Proof and Gold Proof editions.

Dominique Evans is a member of The Royal Mint’s Coin Design team. “I wanted to make Her Majesty The Queen central to my design. She is iconic, regal and celebrated, crowned and seated with orb and sceptre in the centre of the coin. It is a pose that has been admired for a lifetime.

“I also brought Westminster Abbey, where Her Majesty’s coronation took place, into my design. Using the part of the lantern roof under which Queen Elizabeth II was crowned, the threads of the ribbed, gothic vaulting radiate out from the centre of the coin to touch the edges, giving the coin an added sense of robust stature and longevity.”
