2022 german numismatic program

Last update 02/24/2022Germany has unveiled the guidelines of its 2022 program. This article will be updated regularly with official communications from MUNZE DEUTSCHLAND.

The year 2022 marks a turning point for several multi-year collector coin series.

The 5€ series with a polymer ring remains but the theme changes. After the climate, the theme is the insect kingdom with a generic coin in 2022 to anchor the series among collectors, as the German Mint did with the “planet Earth” coin in the previous series.

The €10 coin series is also maintained with a new theme “in the service of society”.

2022 marks the last issuing year for the €2 commemorative coins dedicated to the German Länders as well as for the €100 gold coin mini series dedicated to the German national currency, with the coin dedicated to the Freedom.

Here are the main numismatic issues for the year 2022:

Silver €20 coin – 50th anniversary of children welfare

The federal government has decided to mint a €20 collector coin to mark the 50th anniversary of the German Children’s Fund. The coin will be issued in May 2022.

The organization was founded in 1972. It campaigns for a better implementation of children’s rights in Germany, with equal opportunities for all children.

The coin is made of silver 925/1000. It weighs 18 g, has a diameter of 32.5 mm and is produced in two minting qualities, BU and PROOF.

The design of the coin is by the artist Susanne Jünger from Berlin.

The obverse features the two logos of the German Children’s Fund, as well as the stylized hexagonal donation box, in different sizes. Both motifs are in the colors of the German Children’s Fund. The children’s figures in the lower half of the round coin appear to be throwing the eight hexagons into the air, as if in a game.

On the reverse of the coin are engraved an eagle, the words “BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND”, the face value and denomination, the mint mark “D” of the Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt, Munich, the year 2022 and the twelve European stars. In addition, the indication “SILVER 925” is engraved in relief.

The edge of the coin is smooth and contains the inscription:

“ONLY CHILDREN MATTER”
